The last time you used the Internet did you get a job offer from the first online job application you submitted? Probably not. It is always possible to get a job offer right away but most online job seekers spend a great deal of time searching for jobs and applying for them online before they are successful. Some job seekers may spend weeks, or even months, searching for and applying for jobs before they are even invited on their first job interview. During situations where it is taking awhile to gain any kind of attention from potential employers it is a good idea sit back and evaluate your online job search. By doing this you may find there are steps you can take to make your job search more effective. When evaluating your online job search the first thing to look at is the type of attention you are receiving from potential employers. Are you receiving many interview requests but no job offers? Are you receiving a lot of requests for additional information but not being invited on resumes? If this is the case you may be on track to finding your dream job but there may be something about your application skills which is lacking. You should consider the type of information potential employers are requesting and how you can incorporate this information into your resume in an effective way.

Finally, are you not receiving any type of response from potential employers at all? This is the worst case scenario and you may need to overhaul your online job search strategy in a major way. Consider the keywords you are using in your job search and whether they are generating search results for which you are well qualified. Also consider your resume and cover letter and whether or not they are highlighting your qualifications for a job. You may also want to begin following up with potential employers after a week or two of submitting your application and requesting feedback on why you were not selected to continue in the hiring process.

When evaluating your online job search you should also consider how much time you are spending searching for available job opportunities and how regularly you are checking job search websites for new postings. This can be important because if you are only checking job search websites on a weekly basis, or even less frequently than that, you are likely missing out on many opportunities. While some job advertisements may remain online for an extended period of time there are other great job opportunities which will only be listed for a day or two. This amount of time is often long enough for the employer to be flooded with applications from highly qualified candidates. If you are not happy with the amount of job opportunities you are finding in your online job search consider checking job search websites on a more regular basis. Also consider extending your online job search to include as many job search websites as possible. There are some employers who will post job openings on numerous websites while others will post their openings exclusively on one job search website.
